Surgery was supposed to start at 10am...but that was 1:30pm hospital time. So, all morning we waited. Laila was given IV fluids because she was not allowed eat anything pre-surgery. And the poor baby wanted a freaking bottle. Hangry was an understatement.

Anyway, long story short, surgery finally began and they sent us back to our room to wait. My friends Nikki & Lily were kind enough to lead me through a guided meditation to help distract me from what was happening a few floors below us.

Then, after three hours, they called to tell us she was out of surgery in recovery, and we could go see her.

We were told that the surgery was a "success." They were able to biopsy her tumor and, because it looked malignant, they inserted a "port" into her chest through which the chemo would be administered.

The surgeon told us he could not diagnose anything until pathology came back, but if he had a gun to his head it was "a Wilms tumor, which is best case scenario".

However, we had to wait for pathology to come back before we could have an official diagnosis and treatment plan.

This was on a Friday. We were discharged on Saturday and told we had to wait until the following Wednesday for pathology results/our oncology meeting.

The waiting is what kills us.
