A lot of people are asking us how Caia is handling all of this.
In summary - she is incredible.
We had a brief moment after our first stint in the hospital where she was “scared” of Laila. I think it was seeing Laila with bandages and surgery markings that freaked her out. And for that few hours our hearts were broken...because these two little ladies already have a deep bond and one I hope is never broken.
I am going to write this blog as a message to her, that she can read years from now.
Caia,
Our spunky, smart, adventurous, independent, hysterical first born.
You, my darling, are incredible.
You may not truly understand what is happening right now, but we know your intuition is strong and that you know that “your baby” or “hunny bunch” is sick. And that we are at the hospital a lot.
The way you treat your sister is magical. And she feels your love and is crazy about you. You make Laila light up like no one else does. You are able to calm her down and comfort her in a way we can’t. And you seem to read her mind in anticipating her needs. You somehow know when Laila needs a bottle or medicine and are the first one to run and grab diapers and wipes when duty calls.
In this dark time, you are our light. Our comedic relief making us laugh with all the funny things you say and do.
Thank you for running up to us (without any promoting) and saying “I love you,” with your giant hugs, wet kisses and high fives.
We cannot wait to watch you grow because you are destined for big things. But above all else, you were destined to be the best big sister in the world to Laila. And we are so incredibly proud of you.
Never stop loving each other.
Love,
Your parents

I’m so proud of you honey you’re a perfect mom , daughter and wife.
